5 Remedies for Treating Migraine Headaches Effectively

I know when I feel a migraine, I usually get an aura before it occurs. Some people even feel drowsy, dizzy or suffer from blurred vision before one happens. To have a full blown migraine is just painful and draining, but they can be prevented fast, safely and effectively with natural remedies.

Remedies for Migraines

When I first get the signs of a migraine headache, I never run out to get over the counter migraine medicines because they never really work, or at least not for me anyways. Instead, I always run to my medicine cabinet and pull out 3 different kinds of supplements, which are ginger root, magnesium and vitamin C.

Ginger root helps bring down inflammation and helps prevent the nausea that comes with the full blown migraine headache.

The next one I go for is the magnesium. Magnesium helps because those who suffer from migraines usually lack magnesium in their diet. Magnesium is important because it regulates the serotonin levels and relaxes the muscles and blood vessels in our brain preventing a full blown migraine. The vitamin C is taken to help prevent and relieve inflammation and pain caused by the start of a migraine headache.

So, when I feel a migraine starting to come on I take 2 ginger root supplements, 2 magnesium supplements and 2 vitamin C supplements with a large glass of water.

Once I have taken these supplements I head to the kitchen to make a cup of calming chamomile tea. Chamomile tea is a natural sedative that helps calm the body and spirit right down. Some of the main causes of a migraine headache are stress, tension, depression, fatigue and tiredness. Sipping on chamomile tea helps relax me and calm me down so my migraine doesn't become full blown. Sometimes the chamomile even helps ease me to sleep at the start of a migraine so when I wake up I am migraine free.

Now another thing I run to get at the start of a migraine headache is lavender oil. Lavender essential oil helps calm and relax the mind and body. It also works well for diluting blood vessels in the brain, which can help stop a full blown migraine from developing. Once I have my lavender essential oil in hand, I take a small drop of it and place a little under my nose and on my forehead. After, I begin to take deep breathes in to help breathe in the soothing and healing lavender aroma. I find this to work very well.

The last thing I go get is my cooling body wrap to place around my neck or on forehead for more immediate relief. The coldness of the wrap helps provide soothing relief and reduces inflammation.

End Notes

Within twenty-minutes of using these remedies,  the onset of the migraine begins to go away and I know I have prevented the full blown migraine from happening once again. I do hope those of you who try these natural remedies find relief too.
