Chocolate German Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting

If you love chocolate German cake, but wish for a healthier version to eat you should try this recipe. It is full of yummy flavor and extremely moist and tender. Just follow the steps below to create it now.

Ingredients Needed for the Cake

¼ Cup and 2 Teaspoons of Cocoa Powder

½ Cup of Coffee
1 ¾ Cups of Vanilla Greek Yogurt
3 Tablespoons of Canola Oil
2 ¼ Cups of Sugar
1 Teaspoon of Vanilla Extract
4 Eggs
2 Cups of All Purpose Flour
1 Teaspoon of Baking Soda
½ Teaspoon of Salt
¼ Cup of Milk

Step One: Making the Cake

  1. First pre-heat an oven to 350-degrees.
  2. Now, grease a bunt cake pan well with shortening.
  3. Next, place all the ingredients into a large mixing bowl and beat the ingredients together for 2-minutes to form a batter.
  4. Pour the batter into the pan and bake the cake in the 350-degree oven for about 45-minutes to an hour, or until you can stick a toothpick into the center of it and have it come out clean.
  5. Once the cake is done allow it to cool in the pan for 30-minutes to an hour.
  6. Next, grab a cutting board and carefully flip the bunt cake onto it and allow it to cool some more.

Step Two: Whipping up the Cream Cheese Caramel Frosting

To make the frosting for the German cake you will need a cup of melted caramel or apple dipping caramel, 8-ounces of cream cheese, 2-cups of powder sugar, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and a few tablespoons of whipping cream. Place these ingredients into a mixing bowl and beat them together for 2-minutes. If you find the frosting is too thin add in a tiny bit more powder sugar until you get the texture you desire. If you find the frosting is too thick add in more cream. The frosting should be thick, creamy and easy to spread with a rich creamy caramel color and flavor. Once it is ready, spread it all over the top of the cake. After, sprinkle on a cup of crushed toasted walnuts and toasted shredded coconut. Then, serve the yummy cake up for a delightful treat that I slightly healthier for you.
